Dr. Richard L. Bain

Group Manager and Principal Researcher, Chemical and Petroleum Refining Engineering, Colorado School of Mines, National Bioenergy Center, National Renewable Energy Laboratory

Dr. Richard Bain has resided at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory since February 1990, and has extensive experience in the thermal conversion of biomass, municipal wastes, coal, and petroleum. He is the manager for the NREL in-house research for biomass thermochemical conversion; the technical advisor to DOE on biomass demonstration projects; and coordinator of NREL efforts managing the DOE Small Modular Biopower Initiative. His membership at the International Energy Agency Biomass Gasification Working Group has lasted for 12 years. He published more than 60 papers in energy conversion and has 10 patents in coal conversion, heavy oil processing, and bioconversion.
