Ronald
A. Christensen is currently serving as Chairman of the Gila County Board
of Supervisors located in Arizona. Mr. Christensen is serving his 4th
term as a Gila County Supervisor. He is the immediate past Chair for the
National Association of Counties (NACo) Public Lands Steering Committee
(PLSC). He served as the PLSC chair for 3 consecutive years and remains
an active member on the PLSC and the Western Interstate Region for NACo.
Mr. Christensen has worked on public land issues throughout his career
as a supervisor. He has been involved in all facets of land management
strategies, environmental concerns, endangered species, forest and watershed
health and private and public property rights.
Mr.
Christensen puts his knowledge to work on numerous boards and commissions
at the state and regional level also. He is the Chairman for the Eastern
Counties Organization and the Eastern Environmental Counties Organization
for Arizona both of which work closely with the Governor's office and
the State Land Department. He also chairs the State Water Alliance. In
2003 he was appointed by the Governor to serve on the Governor's Forest
Health Oversight Council and the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission.
Supervisor
Christensen has always taken his appointments seriously by being an active
participant. Starting with his first year in office, Mr. Christensen has
been a primary member of the Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILT) Fly-In. Every
year in April he has joined supervisors from across the United States
in Washington DC to request Congress' support in regard to increasing
funding for the PILT payments, which have been steadily increased each
year.
Gila
County is comprised of 4,748 square miles of which only 4% is privately
owned. It is a resource county whose resources have been shut down. Historically
the timber, ranching and mining industries were very successful; however
they are currently almost nonexistent.
Ron and his wife Clarice have lived in the Mogollon Rim area for over
20 years. They have two children and four amazing grandchildren.
