and Chief Executive Officer, American Forest & Paper Association

W.
Henson Moore was named President and Chief Executive Officer of the American
Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) on February 1, 1995.
Since
assuming this responsibility, Moore has overseen a comprehensive reorganization
making AF&PA among the Nation's most member-focused, efficient trade
associations.
Moore
also serves as the President, International Council of Forest and Paper
Associations, an international organization for the wood and paper industry.
He is a member of the Advisory Committee on Paper and Wood Products of
the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations, as well
as on the Board of USEC Inc. (United States Enrichment Corporation), with
principal offices located in Bethesda, Maryland; Small Business Resources
(SBR), with its principal offices located in Connecticut; the Board of
Directors of the American Council for Capital Formation, the Board of
Directors of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, and an Advisory
Board Member to the U.S.-New Zealand Council, all of which are located
in Washington, D.C.
Moore
came to AF&PA after distinguished public service and legal careers.
A former Member of Congress, he also served as Deputy Secretary of the
U.S. Department of Energy (1989 to 1992) and in 1992 became Deputy Chief
of Staff for President George Bush. In that position, he was responsible
for the daily operation of the President's staff, plus congressional relations,
policy development, communications, and public liaison.
From
1975 to 1987, Moore represented the Sixth Congressional District of Louisiana.
He served on several Committees, including Energy and Commerce, Agriculture,
Budget, and Ways and Means. As a member of the Ways and Means Committee,
he was involved in the drafting of numerous tax bills and was regarded
as an expert in the area of energy taxation.
Immediately
prior to joining AF&PA, Moore was a partner in the Washington office
of Bracewell & Patterson, a Houston law firm, where his time was largely
spent on natural resources and environmental issues.
Moore
served in the U.S. Army in Germany as a Company Commander with the rank
of Captain in the Military Police Corps. He holds B.A. and M.A. degrees
in government and a law degree from Louisiana State University, and is
a Certified Association Executive (CAE) of the American Society of Association
Executives (ASAE).
Moore
and his wife, the former Carolyn Ann Cherry, reside in Potomac, Maryland.
They have three grown children.
AF&PA
is the national trade association of the forest, pulp, paper, paperboard,
and wood products industry, representing over 250 companies and related
trade associations.
