Michigan - Stewardship Contracting Projects
Forest Service
- Briar Hills, Huron-Manistee National Forest
The objectives of the Briar Hills stewardship project are to thin red pine plantations and restore Kirtlands Warbler and Karner Butterfly habitat. This project will treat approximately 300 acres.
- Snow Rooster, Huron-Manistee National Forest
The objectives of the Snow Rooster stewardship project are to maintain aspen forest, improve grouse habitat, and restore Kirtlands warbler and Karner butterfly habitat. This project will treat approximately 285 acres.
- Cooperating for Fish Cribs, Hiawatha National Forest
The Cooperating for Fish Cribs project will improve fish habitat by constructing log crib cover structures. This project will treat approximately 10 acres.
- Clear Lake Education Center Erosion Control, Hiawatha National Forest
The Clear Lake Education Center Erosion Control project aims to reduce erosion occurring on slopes and pathways at the Clear Lake Education Center and to conduct vegetation management. This project will treat approximately 933 acres.
- Japanese Barberry and Exotic Honeysuckle Eradication, Ottawa National Forest
The objectives of the project are to: remove exotic honeysuckle and Japanese barberry from the project area, restore biological diversity, improve wildlife habitat, and return the forest to a more healthy state. This project will treat approximately 156 acres.
- Port Stewardship, Ottawa National Forest
This project will salvage dead and dying jack pine to reduce fuels. This project will treat approximately 225 acres.
- Kirtland’s Warbler Recovery, Huron-Manistee National Forest
The Kirtland’s Warbler Recovery project seeks to restore jack pine communities through extensive restoration efforts and improve existing habitat for Kirtland’s warbler populations. Three contracts were awarded in FY 2002, and two contracts were awarded in FY 2004.
