- Brice's Creek Watershed Wildlife Habitat Improvement, National Forests in North Carolina
The goal of the Brice's Creek Watershed Wildlife Habitat Improvement Project is to improve wildlife habitat, specifically for the Red-cockaded Woodpecker, through restoring the forest to pre-settlement conditions and restricting vehicle access. The project will treat approximately 70 acres.
- Wayah Contract Logging, National Forests in North Carolina
The intent of the Wayah Contract Logging Project was to evaluate the effectiveness of a logging service contract to complete vegetative management of an area. The contracting mechanism used in the project tested the ability of local mills to do merchandizing and different sale arrangements (e.g., roadside logging decks). Six contracts were awarded in FY 2002 and FY 2003 and the project is completed.
- Sand Mountain Contract Logging Services, National Forests in North Carolina
The Sand Mountain project is designed to provide a variety of wildlife habitat improvements and enhanced recreational opportunities, while protecting watershed health and assisting with the control of noxious weed species. Nine contracts were awarded in FY 2003, two contracts were awarded in FY 2004, and the project is now complete.
- Catpen Stewardship Project Wildlife Habitat, Erosion Control and Access Improvement, National Forests in North Carolina
The Catpen Stewardship Project Wildlife Habitat, Erosion Control and Access Improvement project will improve wildlife habitat, recreational resource management, erosion control, and access to the forest. Two contracts were awarded in FY 2004 and FY 2005.
