LC Wildlife Habitat Improvement, Francis Marion and Sumter National Forest
The LC project is designed to improve forest health and increase wildlife habitat. A contract was awarded in FY 2005. -
FM biomass Removal Project, Francis Marion National Forest
The FM biomass removal project will reduce fuel loading and enable remaining trees to better withstand insect outbreaks. This project will treat approximately 10,000 acres. -
First Loblolly Pine Thinning Project, Francis Marion and Sumter National Forest
The First Pine Thinning project seeks to improve red cockaded woodpecker habitat and forest health through pre-commercial and commercial thinning. Such activities will also reduce forest susceptibility to insect and wildfire threats. The estimated acres of treatment will be 2,530. Four contracts were awarded in FY 2003, and two contracts awarded in FY 2004. -
Southern Pine Beetle Suppression Project, Francis Marion and Sumter National Forest
The Pine Beetle project seeks to keep forests in healthy condition and thereby reducing the impacts of southern pine beetle infestations. The project was completed in FY 2004. -
Prescribe Fire & Wildlife Habitat Improvement, Francis Marion and Sumter National Forest
The Prescribe Fire & Wildlife Habitat Improvement project will prescribe fire to reduce the fuel load, which will reduce the incidence and intensity of wildfire; improve wildlife habitat; stimulate forest-grassland vegetative community; enhance nutrient cycling; improve species competition and wood quality, and improve forest aesthetics. Two contracts were awarded in FY 2004.
