National Fire Plan - Fuels Reduction

The Cal Fire tested the community of Central, Utah in 2004. Although approximately 100 homes were threatened and evacuated, the fuel breaks that were created in 2002 and 2003 held the fire at the community's edge. The crown fire was stopped and the fire dropped into lighter fuels, where it burned to the control lines.  The fuel breaks saved this community.

During the first part of July, 2005 the community of New Harmony was threatened from the 12,000 acre Blue Springs wildland fire. The community consisted of upscale homes and was evacuated as the fire approached the fuel breaks completed through National Fire Plan funds.  The fuel breaks saved this community as they had saved Central the year before.
